There’s so much to say, and to learn from this picture. First, it depicts the horrors we endure each day, but it has become our sad reality. I think we’re even becoming desensitized.
This woman was killed in cold blood, likely while scavenging for food on her farm to feed her malnourished children. She probably came from a remote village lacking basic necessities like good roads, safe water, healthcare, and quality education for her kids. Despite voting for good governance, conditions deteriorated, ultimately cutting her life short.
Her killers showed a twisted form of mercy, sparing the child’s life – a stark contrast to the usual wiping of everything human alive including infants.
Now, the child, clinging to its mother, scavenges for breast from its only trusted source – its mum, oblivious to the harsh reality of its mum being dead. This is the fate that can befall nations that stray from moral principles, like ours.
It will be deeply emotional for anyone who pulls this child away from its mum knowing that one is removing that child from this motherly warmth forever.
The perpetrators likely justified their actions in the name of God, prejudice, or both. Yet, justice may not be served. Recently, our military personnel were attacked and killed, and again, there may be no consequences. We’ve become numb to such violence.
There are four potential actions we can take.
●Firstly, Defending Ourselves
But how can we effectively do so when the forces against us seem organized. elusive and well funded, evading even our country’s advanced security architecture? How can we counter a seemingly trained militia with sophisticated weapons, when we’re armed with just clubs and machetes? Still, self-defense is crucial, but how?
●Evangelize These Folks.
Perhaps our only hope lies in winning and evangelizing our persecutors through Christ’s love. This brutality suggests only one thing to me – the urgency to dispense God’s love and mercy to these depraved minds who think they are serving and working for this loving God.
How can we harbor hatred towards people who kill with such cruelty? Their brutal acts – burning communities, harming children, and mutilating pregnant women – warrant not anger but compassion. They need Christ and God’s mercy.
●Help the Victims.
I’m pained by our muted response to fellow citizens in distress. It’s as if we’re numb to their suffering. What’s happening to our humanity and empathy? While some aid is being provided, it’s woefully inadequate.
Can we please do better, make more sacrifices for the victims of all these senseless killings who lose everything – farm produce, houses, properties, food barns, valuables and loved ones.
You can reach out to us on how.
●Vote Out Evil and Engage Our Governance.
God has blessed us with capable leaders, but we fail to elect them. We often claim elections are rigged, yet rigging wouldn’t be possible without everyday people like you and me enabling it. We’re complicit when we allow ourselves or our loved ones to be used for personal gain. Once in power, these leaders continue to exploit us to achieve their goals and we repeat the same greed every election season.
